All you need to know about the Golden Globe nominations

Nominations for the 73rd Golden Globe Awards were announced Thursday and four of the five nominees for “Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama” are also being honored by the Palm Springs International Film Festival.

During the film festival’s awards gala, Alicia Vikander (“The Danish Girl”) will receive the Rising Star Award, Cate Blanchett(“Carol”) will receive the Desert Palm Achievement – Actress Award, Brie Larson (“Room”) will receive the Breakthrough Performance Award and Saoirse Ronan (“Brooklyn”) will receive the International Star Award. Rooney Mara (“Carol”) is the fifth Golden Globe nominee.

The gala, which is sold out, is on Jan. 2 at the Palm Springs Convention Center.

Other previously announced honorees include Michael Fassbender, Johnny Depp and Tom McCarthy. The gala will be hosted by Mary Hart, with presenting sponsor “Entertainment Tonight.”

The Palm Springs International Film Festival runs Jan. 1-11 at venues throughout Palm Springs and Cathedral City. The opening night film is sold out even though it hasn’t been announced yet.

The 2016 Golden Globe Awards will be held on Jan. 10, 2016. It will be telecast live on NBC from 5 to 8 p.m. Ricky Gervais will return as emcee at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
